Black francolin is the state bird of Haryana state, India. Its size is about a half grown village hen and it belongs to the family of Pheasants and Partridges , locally known as kala teetar in Hindi.
The male bird is black, spotted and barred with white and fulvous. The glistening white cheek-patches and chestnut collar of the cock are diagnostic. Hen is considerably paler, mottled and speckled black and white, with a chestnut patch on nape. Seen as single or pair in well-watered areas , and its Distribution geographic range in India is Nort and North East , Kutch through Gwalior to Chilka lake in Orissa,Bird is also seen in other Asian Countires West of India the bird is categorized as least concern in IUCN red list , Nesting season is April to July and lays 6 to 8 egg at a time
